Praiano

Praiano
like many of the municipalities of the peninsula was part of the Duchy of Amalfi in the period of the Maritime Republic. Praiano was chosen as a summer residence of the Doges of Amalfi probably for the opportunity to
enjoy the sun from sunrise to sunset, which is rare in Amalfi Coast. The territory of Praiano extends from the high hill to the sea, so this is a village of fishermen and farmers. Praiano is famous for its churches, mainly for the San Gennaro church. There are a lot of votive niches in fresco or ceramic, spread along the narrow streets and the numerous stairways of the city revealing the large religious devotion of the people of Praiano. Very famous is the festival in honor of San Domenico during which the whole city is decorated with candles, the so-called “Luminarie”, spreading a truly unique and charming atmosphere
